In 2 Peter 1:21, “The prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” This talk is based on the hand written Torah scroll that is presently displayed at the British museum.

The book we know as the Bible began to come into existence over 3,000 years ago. The earliest books were written by Moses for the Hebrew speaking people, known as Israelites in history. Moses may have had access to information written on clay tablets before the Flood (see Genesis 5 ‘This is the book of the generations of Adam”) which provides a genealogy from Adam to Noah and his sons. The first five books, collectively known as the Pentateuch, describe the origin of the Israelites; how they sprang from the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jacob had twelve sons and from these came the twelve tribes of Israel. Jacob and his family of some 70 persons came from the land of Canaan into Egypt, as a result of a famine. In time the Egyptians considered these Israelites to be a threat to their nation and enslaved these descendants of Jacob as described in the Book of Exodus.

The history of Christianity is no better than that of the Jews. The Lord Jesus and his apostles established in their teachings very clearly the basic meaning of the Old Testament scripture. This is summarised in the New Testament phrase: “The things concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ”. The substance of these things is described as the Gospel, or good news and glad tidings. This contained specific information concerning the Kingdom of God and the identity, character and achievements of Jesus Christ; which were essential to a correct belief and faith that are absolutely necessary to the attainment of the salvation which the Bible promises.

What Does the Bible Say About the Holy Spirit?

The Bible has always been at the heart of the Christian religion. It does not matter which Church, denomination, or sect you may investigate, the Bible will be in a prominent position. It does so in the Catholic Church, in the Orthodox Churches, in the Church of England, Methodist, Baptist, Brethren, Jehovah’s Witness, and many others besides. The Bible is the one thing that unifies all christian sects, and so here we explore its origins and answer the fundamental question; where does the Bible come from?
